FAQ
What is a “wala”?
In India, someone who does something for you is called a “wala”. The person who washes your clothes is a “dobhi wala”. The one who owns the shop, a “dukhan wala”. And the one who serves you chai is the “chai wala”. Masala Wala Chai is the “spicy one”.
Where can we find Masala Wala Chai?
Masala Wala Chai can be found every Saturday in the Barr Street Market (market moves indoor for the winter, Oct 1).
You can also purchase Masala Wala Chai in the refrigerated cooler at Plowshares at the Market in the Union Street Market, 1620 Broadway, Stall 7.
Masala Wala Chai will be available for wholesale after October 1.
Will you ever offer a vegan chai?
We don’t know. While we honor everyone’s choice around dietary options, we also know vegan milk alternatives don’t create the same effect. We’ve tried every one of them (hemp, oat, coconut, almond, cashew, pecan) and they all create a subpar product. Our desire is to create a product that truly makes an impact, and we hope you’ll give it a chance if you aren’t lactose intolerant.
What is A2 milk?
A2 milk refers to cow’s milk that contains only the A2 type of beta-casein protein, as opposed to the more common A1 and A2 types found in regular milk. The difference lies in a genetic variation among cows where some produce milk with predominantly A2 beta-casein, while others produce milk with both A1 and A2 beta-casein proteins. A2 milk is purported to be easier to digest for those who are sensitive to A1 protein. We’re currently looking for a vendor to provide A2 milk for Masala Wala Chai.
What is Masala Wala Chai’s shelf life?
Two weeks from the date of manufacture. Under proper refrigeration, Masala Wala Chai has a shelf life of two weeks.
At this time, the state health code is 7 days. Masala Wala Chai is applying for a variance to adjust this date to two weeks, as the Process Authority has completed microbial testing.
